It is true that the use of an electric stove only pays Rp. 60 per hour?

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

A Balinese states that 1 hour of use electric stove from the government program spent only Rp60 criticized netizens. Something wrong with the calculation?

Previously, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources was conducting trials to convert 3-kilogram LPG gas into an electric stove with a capacity of two 1,000-watt stoves in Solo and Bali.

One of the recipients of the stove package, Jero Kusumawati (63), a shop owner in Mertasari Beach, Sanur, Denpasar, Bali, admitted that his expenses were more efficient with this stove.

If he uses LPG, he admits he can spend two 3-kilogram pipes for the price of Rp. 18 thousand per tube, for a total of Rp. 36 thousand. Meanwhile, with an electric stove, the costs are cheaper.

“He does not spend much, because the electricity was fixed by PLN. For an hour, Rp. 60 rupees,” he said.

Jero himself did not specify the electricity in the shop or at his home and how long he used the stove per day. However, the public hastily questioned Jero’s count. There are also those who argue that there are no details on the timing of its use.

The Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conversion (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dadan Kusdiana, said that 1 kg of LPG equals 7.2 kWh of electricity.

Assuming a family of 1,300 VA charged with a rate of Rp. 1,444 per kWh, the cost to be borne by customers who use an electric stove is Rp. 10.108.

Meanwhile, if we assume that the price of unsubsidized LPG of 5.5 kg at DKI Jakarta is Rp. 100 thousand, it can be said that the price of LPG is around Rp. 18.181 per kg.

“This is true if you use 1 kg of unsubsidized LPG for Rp. 18,181, if you replace the electricity it costs only Rp. 10,108,” Dadan said.

How much per hour? Dadan explained that the electricity tariff of Rp. 10.108 cannot be interpreted on the hour.

“It doesn’t need to be done per hour (for a fee of Rp. 10, 108), because we don’t know how much gas or electricity is needed per hour,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of Political, Economic and Political Studies (PEPS) Anthony Budiawan said that 1 kg of LPG equals 14 kwh, not 7.2 kwh.

With this calculation, Anthony stated that families of 1,300 VA have to pay around Rp 20,216. if they want to use an electric heater every 14 hours.

“One kg of LPG should be equal to 14 kWh of electricity,” Anthony said.

When calculated per hour, he explained that each 1,300 VA household that uses an electric heater has to pay around Rp 1,444. Meanwhile, the cost of using unsubsidized 5.5kg LPG at DKI Jakarta is Rp 18,181. per kg.

Assuming Anthony 1 kg of LPG equals 14 kWh, his hourly consumption of LPG reaches Rp1,298.

Consequently, the cost to the community of using electric stoves will be higher than LPG.
