It is planned to create a wind farm in Popes parish

The company “4 Wind” in Popes Parish “Sārcē” plans to build a wind farm with four wind turbines and establish a Responsible Wind Energy Fund, to which part of the wind farm’s profits will be directed, informs “4 Wind” board member Kristaps Stepanovs.

A responsible part of the wind farm’s profits will be channeled to a responsible wind energy fund and will be used to improve the quality of life of local people.

It is planned to build four wind turbines each with a capacity of 5.6 megawatts (MW) at the Sārce wind farm.

Stepanov noted that the wind farm will correspond to the spatial plan of the Kurzeme planning region, and the distance from the wind turbine to the nearest house will exceed the allowable distance five times.

At the same time, he acknowledged that leading experts in the industry will still assess the potential impact of the park on the environment and provide opinions in the near future.

Stepanov pointed out that wind energy is safe for both the environment and people and provides many economic benefits. However, the challenge for the development of wind farms is to benefit the local population, who can only indirectly feel the positive effects of wind energy on the electricity market, investment or climate sustainability. “Therefore, we will develop the new wind farm together with a special fund, which will direct a certain part of the park’s revenues for further use directly to promote the well-being of the local population,” said a member of the board of 4 Wind.

He emphasized that the need to involve local communities in the development of wind farms was also recognized in many parts of the world, including Scandinavia. “Our goal is to promote the development of socially responsible policy wind farms in Latvia and we hope that our model will become the industry standard for other projects in Latvia as well,” said Stepanovs.

4 Wind plans to set up a special Responsible Wind Energy Fund, addressing and involving local opinion leaders in the fund’s council, which would help determine the criteria and procedures for using the fund’s resources. It is not yet determined what part of the wind farm’s profit would be directed to the disposal of the fund, as the park itself is still in the development stage.

The company “4 Wind” was registered in 2018, and its share capital is 252,800 euros, according to “Firmas.lv” information. “4 Wind” is owned by the Czech company “Latvia Wind”, but the real beneficiary is Tomas Krsek, a Czech citizen.
