It is doubtful whether Intel Arc Alchemist cards will support running older games

The developers are working on solutions so that not only DirectX 12 games are optimized.

Although the Intel Arc laptop GPUs are underperforming compared to the company’s expectations, the company still does not give up on being a worthy competitor in the video card market to AMD and Nvidia. He does all this despite the fact that before leaked documents it was hinted that it could close the entire business within a few years, but this was already denied by the management in August. Intel following the Alchemist series plans until at least 2025 a with Battlemage, Celestial and Druid generations, but the focus is of course currently on optimizing Arc Alchemist GPUs.

In the most recently published Q&A video, Ryan Shrout and Tom Petersen talked about the performance we can expect for older, or more precisely, games that do not support DirectX 12. It turned out that the developers are still working on making sure that Arc Alchemist cards don’t cause problems with DirectX 11 games running optimally, but according to the current situation, there is no solution for this yet.

During a previous test, compared to the DirectX 12 version of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, a 45% performance drop was measured when starting the game in the DirectX 11 version. However, it is an encouraging sign that it is Intel Arc A750 under ideal conditions it can outperform the GeForce RTX 3060 and the Radeon RX 6600 XT.

Intel is expected to share more details about the features and pricing of the video cards in the coming weeks.
