Scientists have identified a disease that gives some kind of immunity to the coronavirus. This is dengue fever, and those who have had it can develop immunity to COVID-19. This is reported by the edition Reuters, citing a study by American professor Miguel Nicolelis.
Professor Nicolelis found that in regions where previously there were high rates of this fever, the coronavirus spreads much more slowly.
“This startling discovery raises an intriguing possibility of immunological cross-reactivity between the serotypes of Dengue flavivirus and SARS-CoV-2,” the American scientist said.
If it is possible to identify the real relationship of the two infections, mass infection of the coronavirus can be avoided by vaccinating people against dengue fever.
Reference. Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne flavivirus. It is distributed mainly in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. The symptoms of this fever are similar to regular flu, but without proper treatment, the mortality rate in patients with severe disease is about 20%.
