The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) assessed the situation at the front as of July 5. Experts believe that the Russian Federation continues to prepare for an offensive against Slavyansk, Bakhmut and Seversk. However, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are rebuffing the enemy and can boast of certain successes.

Russian offensive on Seversk
Thus, the occupiers want to create conditions under which they will be able to conduct offensive operations. The goal of the Russian Federation after the capture of Lisichansk was three cities in the Donetsk region: Bakhmut, Seversk and Slavyansk. Now the Rashists are digging in, they are trying to secure for themselves a successful advance from Lisichansk towards Seversk.
According to ISW, due to the plans of the invaders to move towards the Donetsk region, Serebryanka has already suffered. This city, located five kilometers from Seversk, stands on the border of the Lugansk region and the Donetsk region.
Attempts to capture Bakhmut
The invaders, trying to take control of Bakhmut, attack from two directions. The enemy is storming the village of Novoluganskoye and shelling the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the villages of Zaitsevoe and Kodema. So the Russian Federation wants to seize the roads from the villages to the highway that leads from Bakhmut to Gorlovka. If they succeed, then the attack on Bakhmut will indeed be carried out from two sides at once.
Successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Donetsk region
Despite all the attempts of the occupiers to seize new cities of Ukraine, our defenders are fighting and rebuffing the enemy. As a result of a successful counteroffensive, the Armed Forces of Ukraine recaptured the village of Solodka, which is located 30 kilometers from Donetsk.
In addition, the Ukrainian military successfully repelled attempts by the Russian Federation to attack the villages of Krasnopolye and Dolina in the Donetsk region. These settlements are located along the highway. If the occupiers managed to gain control over them, then the road between Izyum, Slavyansk and Bakhmut would be at the location of the enemy.
Defenders of Ukraine hold back the enemy in the Kharkiv region
The troops of the Russian Federation, which the aggressor country itself calls the “second army of the world,” have suffered another setback in the Kharkiv region. The Armed Forces of Ukraine did not allow the enemy to storm the village of Sosnovka, repelled the attack on Prudyanka, Pitomnik and Dementyevka.

And while the Russian army is trying to storm the Kharkiv region and attack the Donetsk region, the defenders of Ukraine repelled the attack of the invaders near the village of Lozovoe in the Kherson region. According to ISW experts, this may indicate that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have returned the village of Lozovoe under their control. However, in the Russian Federation they “report” that they have not lost the village. Although, given the unreliability of most of the statements of the occupiers, these words may turn out to be lies.
