ISU cancels all competitions in Russia and Belarus – Winter Sports

Shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the ISU announced that it would bar all Russian and Ukrainian athletes from competing.

In turn, on Monday, after the weekend’s meeting, the ISU announced that it would not be possible to organize competitions in Russia and Belarus for an indefinite period.

“Until further announcement, there will be no international competition in Russia and Belarus,” the ISU said on Monday.

Due to the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, the meeting also decided to introduce an amendment to the ISU statutes that would suspend the powers of federations whose representatives or athletes have contributed to the epidemic of terrorism, war, unrest, chemical and radioactive contamination.

The ISU also added that there will be no Grand Prix stage in Moscow in November, and national federations can apply to host the competition if they are interested.

The ISU stated that it does not prohibit the participation of Russian and Belarusian officials in the 2022 congress of the organization, but before its beginning, ISU members will be able to vote on this issue, possibly also denying the representatives of both countries to participate in the congress.

The ISU also announced that it will allocate about 200 thousand Swiss francs (about 195 thousand euros) to support the Ukrainian Skating Federation and its representatives.
