Israeli lawmakers support parliamentary dismissal bill at first reading – Abroad – News

The proposal was supported by 61 votes to 54.

The government coalition party Blue and White, including its leader Defense Minister Benny Gancs, voted in favor of the bill, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s party Likud voted against.

This could mean that the government of the two-party coalition will fall apart only seven months after its formation.

The bill, initiated by the opposition, still needs to be supported in three readings in order to become law, so the coalition partners have time to resolve disputes, including the adoption of the budget.

If no solution is found for the state budget, the parliament will be automatically dissolved on December 23, but new elections will take place in another 90 days.

Netanyahu has previously said his party is opposed to the dissolution of parliament and called for national unity in the context of the coronavir crisis.

Izhars, the science minister of the Blue and White party, said in an interview with the army radio this Wednesday that efforts are being made to form an alternative government.

“New elections are not needed if we can replace this government with another,” Shai said.
