Israeli Cargo Ship Allegedly Attacked by Iranian Missiles in Persian Gulf

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Israel was reportedly conducting an investigation into the alleged attack on a cargo ship that was en route United Arab Emirates.

The cargo ship, named Tyndall, belongs to Zodiac Maritime Ltd., an international ship management company headquartered in London, England. However, the ship is partly owned by Israeli businessmen.

Israeli television station, N12 Television News, reported that authorities were examining whether Iran was behind the sabotage attempt.

So far, Tel Aviv has often accused Iran – its mortal enemy – as the mastermind behind all the sabotage and attacks on its ships. Vice versa, Iran often accuses Israel of being behind attacks on ships and nuclear sites.

Citing Israeli security sources, N12 said the crew of the Tyndall were not injured, but the ship was hit by possible missile fire.

Even so, the ship was not seriously damaged and was able to continue its journey after the incident occurred.

N12 said tracking data for the Refinitiv Eikon vessel showed the Tyndall container was sailing under the Liberian flag. The ship last docked in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and is currently off the coast of Dubai.

A spokesman for the United Arab Emirates government did not respond to a request for confirmation Reuters about the condition of the ship. Israeli officials also did not immediately confirm the report.

Meanwhile, a pro-Iranian television station in Lebanon, Al Mayadeen, reported the incident widely. The media were the first to report the alleged attack.

If confirmed, this is the latest attack targeting Israeli ships. In April, a commercial ship belonging to an Israeli company was also the target of the attack.

On the other hand, in early June, the largest Iranian Navy ship sank in early June after burning in the Gulf of Oman.
