Israeli Strikes Target Hezbollah Sites in Lebanon‘s Bekaa Valley and South
Recent Israeli military actions have focused on sites associated with Hezbollah’s Radwan forces in both eastern and southern Lebanon. the Israeli army reported targeting locations in the Bekaa Valley where Hezbollah members were gathered and weapons were stored. according to the Israeli statement, these sites are utilized for training, preparing operatives, and planning attacks against Israel and its military. The army further alleges that activities at these locations include weapons training exercises.Israel asserts that Hezbollah’s use of these sites violates existing understandings between Israel and Lebanon and represents a threat to Israeli security.
Residents in the Bekaa Valley reported observing at least four plumes of smoke rising from the targeted areas, with subsequent large-scale fires prompting a response from local relief teams.
Alongside the strikes in the northeast, additional attacks were recorded in southern Lebanon.
On September 6th, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun met with US Central Command (Centcom) commander Admiral Brad Cooper, urging the United States to exert pressure on israel to withdraw from areas it occupies in southern Lebanon. President Aoun highlighted that lebanese forces control over 85% of the territory south of the Litani River, but ongoing Israeli attacks hinder the army’s full deployment. He also noted that 12 Lebanese soldiers and officers have been killed to date while engaged in mine clearance and ammunition transport.
This is not the first instance of Israel targeting Radwan force sites. In July, a important Israeli air strike in the Bekaa valley targeted Radwan unit locations, reportedly resulting in at least 12 fatalities, including seven Syrian citizens. Furthermore, in November 2024, Israel announced the killing of Mustafa Ahmed Shehadeh, the deputy commander of a Hezbollah Radwan unit, during a raid in Nabatieh, southern Lebanon. Israel claims Shehadeh was responsible for planning terrorist activities against Israel.
