Israel Faces Dangerous Threat From Drones, Its Weaknesses Revealed

TEL AVIV – Protection Israel against drone strikes (drones) is very bad. Israel’s State Finance Superintendent Matanyahu Englman has exposed that weakness in his latest report.

The statement also sparked a play of blame on who really is responsible for placing Israel at a dangerous threat to its national security.

The report, which covers the October 2019-June 2020 time period, found up to 78% of Israeli soldiers lacked protection from drone strikes.

“The increasing use of drones brings many benefits, but the constant advances in technology and ease of acquisition bring with it the obligation to deal with growing security, criminal and security threats, which include dangers to human life and national security,” Englman told the Jerusalem Post. publish the details of the report.

Highlighting the scale of the problem while refining the grim reality of Israel’s defense capabilities, Englman said as of July 2020, there were 30,000 drones operating in Israel that had carried out 90,000 flights over the Tel Aviv region alone over the past year.

Most of these drones are said to be unregistered and there is no technological solution to keep up with them or impose restrictions on them.

There is sharp disagreement about who is to blame, especially since the issues highlighted in the report were raised in 2017.

Disagreements about lines of authority, lack of sharing of information and sharing of responsibilities were cited as reasons for weak security.

Englman’s recommendation is for the police and the Civil Aviation Authority to work together to build real infrastructure to prosecute individuals for drone-related crimes.

The Israeli government was sharply criticized in the report for moving operations away from the Israeli capital Tel Aviv.

According to Englman, the move undermined the military intelligence capabilities by moving most of its units to the Beersheba region without following through on commitments making the move smoother for intelligence personnel.

About 93% of the intelligence staff who were supposed to work in the south did not live there. Many have families and cannot easily move houses.

As a result, the report warns, high-ranking intelligence officers are moving to the private sector to avoid having to relocate to the south.
