Israel Establishes Distance Guard in Offices Before Corona Pandemic

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

An Israeli technology company, PointGrab is reportedly developing a device that can make any employee to keep their distance when alias social distancing work in an office amidst a pandemic corona virus Covid-19.

The device is known to use sensors and is installed on the ceiling of the workspace.

Launch CNN, PointGrab actually developed the technology before the pandemic. They purposely created it to help workspace managers optimize how employees use office space.

Apart from that, the device has a fire sensor which can also record the exact number and location of people in buildings including offices, hotels and restaurants.

One of PointGrab’s first clients was Deloitte, which installed the system at its headquarters in London last year. PointGrab sensors are linked to screens in buildings to show table and area availability in real time.

PointGrab CEO Doron Shachar said the device was one of a series of innovations that helped Deloitte fit 30 percent more people into a 3 percent smaller space.

Amid the pandemic, PointGrab has adapted its technology so that sensors can also monitor social distancing by tracking how far away people are and whether they are traveling in one direction around buildings.

With that capability, the workspace manager can alert when two people are less than two meters away for more than 30 seconds.

Launch The HillOther companies have developed different approaches to the problem. US technology firm Camio, for example, uses image-detection software that works with surveillance cameras to track how close employees are and whether they are wearing masks.

Regarding PointGrab, it is said that the company has sold more than 10,000 sensors for workspace optimization, including at Coca-Cola, Facebook and Dell offices.

PointGrab said no image or recognition features were recorded. Instead, each employee is represented as an anonymous dot on the dashboard.

“The censorship does not violate people’s privacy,” said Shachar.

Claimed privacy is a key consideration for many facility management services and software providers that partner with PointGrab.

Spacewell, a provider of building management software chose to incorporate PointGrab technology into its smart building platform because of its ability to anonymize data.

“We do a lot of business with health care companies and financial service providers, so it’s very important to make sure that you don’t have any images or data leaving the device,” said Spacewell managing director Adrian Weygandt.

While smart sensors alone may not be enough to get workers back into the office, Shachar believes they can help companies take the first steps.
