Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, said that all Islamic organizations in Indonesia firmly refused to attend Israeli national team U-20 to compete in Indonesia.

Sudarnoto stated that this had been agreed upon in a meeting between the MUI and Islamic mass organizations in Indonesia recently.

“All the Islamic mass organizations that were present expressed their attitude of rejecting the presence of the Israeli national team,” Sudarnoto told CNNIndonesia.com, Saturday (18/3).

He said, there were four reasons why the MUI together with all Indonesian Islamic organizations rejected the arrival of the Israel U20 national team. First, he said, this is related to the constitutional mandate contained in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution.

Its contents explain that all forms of colonization on earth must be eliminated. In fact, this constitutional mandate is also the main basis for the rejection of the Israeli national team by all Islamic organizations.

“Israeli Zionists are criminals and occupiers,” he said.

The second reason is related to diplomatic relations. He thinks that it is clear that Indonesia does not have diplomatic relations with Israel and will never open diplomatic relations as long as Palestine is still under occupation.

The third reason has to do with solidarity. Islamic organizations and MUI continue to strengthen solidarity with the people and nation of Palestine who have been victims of Israeli aggression, annexation, genocide and apartheid politics.

For the fourth reason, the unity and integrity of the nation must be cared for, strengthened and protected from the threat of disintegration caused by the controversies and pros and cons that have been allowed around the Israeli national team.

The Israeli national team will appear in the U-20 World Cup, where Indonesia will act as host. The U-20 World Cup itself will take place from 20 May to 11 June 2023.
