Isabel Dobarro and Raquel Andueza will remember the figure of María de Pablos | Radio Segovia

Next November will be the 30th anniversary of the death of the Segovian musician María de Pablos, for this reason the III Meeting of Women Musicians that bears her name will be special. A meeting that from September 10 to 12 will try to value the figure of this woman and the music written by women.

Pianist Isabel Dobarro will open the conference on Thursday 10th, in two passes at the Creation Center Prison. Pianist, researcher in gender and music studies, and founder of Women in Music, an initiative that promotes music composed by women both in the United States and in Spain. Committed to the visibility of women in music, Isabel Dobarro has developed her concert career in the United States, Spain, Russia, Belgium, Argentina, Italy and Portugal. This summer he has performed with the renowned piper Carlos Núñez within the framework of the XXIX International Festival on the Camino de Santiago. At the III Encuentro Mujeres Musicas “María de Pablos”, Isabel Dobarro will offer a concert-conference under the title Music of the other half at La Cárcel_Centro de Promoción with pieces by Amy Beach, Clara Schumann, Rosa García Ascot or Teresa Carreño, on Thursday September 10, in two passes, at 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

On Friday the 11th at the Church of Santa Eulalia it will be the turn to enjoy the show La Vendetta by the company La Galíana created by Raquel Andueza. One of the most important specialized formations in baroque music on the current Spanish music scene, with numerous awards to its credit such as the Best Baroque Music Group 2014, awarded by GEMA (Association of Spanish Early Music Groups). The show “La Vendetta”, on Friday September 11 at 8:30 pm, is a tribute to Barbara Strozzi, a 17th century Venetian soprano. Known as “virtuosissima cantatrice”, Strozzi was the first woman in the history of music to make a living from composition, supported by the Venetian aristocracy of the time.

Raquel Andueza has performed as a soloist in major festivals and stages around the world, after her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2012. She has made recordings for record labels such as Warner Classics or Virgin Classics, and has created her own record label Anima e Corpo. He has collaborated on soundtracks for films, short films and television series such as “La Catedral del Mar” or “Exodus” by Ridley Scott, and has given voice, together with La Galanía, to the Loewe Sport perfume spot.

The concert capacity will be reduced so that the concerts can be seen in streaming through the Foundation’s website. To close on the 12th at eight thirty in the afternoon on the stage of the Creation Center Prison, the final of the III International Composition Competition will take place with the interpretation of the three finalist works.

The three finalist works selected: ‘Akos’ by Silvia Llanas Rich, ‘Ánimas’ by Carme Rodríguez and ‘Broken Landscapes’ by María Camahort Alejandro, will be interpreted by Isabel Dobarro, on piano, and Francisco Gil, clarinet. After the interpretation, the deliberation of the professional jury will take place, made up of Marisa Manchado as President, Ana Vega Toscano, Nacho de Paz, Enrique Igoa and Mar Gutiérrez. The first prize is endowed with 1000 euros, an accrediting diploma and the premiere of the work at the XXVIII Segovia Contemporary Music Conference in the 2020/2021 edition. The second and third classified will obtain, respectively, 500 and 300 euros, in addition to a diploma. The “Barrio de Santa Eulalia” public award, given by the Neighborhood Association of the Santa Eulalia neighborhood of Segovia, has a prize of 200 euros.

This meeting was promoted by the Santa Eulalia neighborhood association where the Segovian director, one of the first in Spain, has a dedicated street. Tickets can now be reserved at a price of 5 euros at the visitor reception center and the proceeds will go to the Red Cross, to alleviate the effects of the pandemic.
