Is the iPhone 13 finally going to solve this problem?

Will the iPhone 13 end one of the biggest annoyances of iPhone users?

Smartphone manufacturers are already busy developing their products for 2021. Of course, Apple cannot lag behind. This could be some good news as the iPhone 13 tackles the battery capacity issue.

iPhone 13 comes with soft board batteries

The well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has news. He reports that Apple will use a new technology for the iPhone 13, the so-called soft board battery.

Without getting very technical, it boils down to the fact that a battery consists of several layers. The soft board battery can deliver the same power with fewer layers. It seems certain that Apple is going to use this technology. Manufacturer Jialianyi reports namely that they expect 40 to 50% revenue growth in 2021. According to them, this is due to orders from Apple. They ordered the soft boards for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini.

Incidentally, the battery can be used for more memory capacity or to make the device thinner. In the past, Apple often opted for a thinner device. Now that complaints about battery use are increasing, the question is whether that choice is made again for the next generation of iPhones.

Choice for energy-saving screen iPhone 13

Still, it seems that with a battery of the iPhone 13 you get a longer life anyway, even if you don’t expand the capacity. According to other sources, Apple is coming with a new screen. Its official designation is low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LPTO) thin-film transistors (TFT), abbreviated to LPTO screen. This technique is to replace the standard OLED screens and is already used successfully on the Samsung Galaxy S20 and Apple Watch 5 and 6.

The advantage of this display is that it is more energy efficient and that the refresh rate can be varied between 1 and 120 Hz.

Will it be a gap year after all?

With these two news we seem, after the earlier news about the cameras for the iPhone 13 Pro, having had the most drastic changes. We could already report earlier that Apple seems to label the coming year as a ‘gap year’, perhaps even the name on the shovel goes.
