KOMPAS.com – Ministry of Communications (Ministry of Transportation) has allowed airlines to raise ticket price aircraft starting August 4, 2022.

This is stated in the Decree of the Minister of Transportation Number 142 of 2022 concerning the Amount of Additional Fees (Surcharge) Caused by Fuel Fluctuations (Fuel Surcharge) Domestic Scheduled Commercial Air Transport Economy Class Passenger Fares.

In the decree, the airline can increase the surcharge (surcharge) for maximum jet type aircraft 15 percent from the upper limit fare according to the service group of each airline

As for the maximum propeller type aircraft, 25 percent from the upper limit fare according to the service group of each airline.

This means that an increase in ticket prices can be granted according to the stated limit.

Previously, the provisions for additional aircraft costs were regulated in KM 68 of 2022 concerning the Amount of Additional Costs (Fuel Surcharge) Domestic Scheduled Commercial Air Transport Economy Class Passenger Fares.

In the regulation, the additional cost for jet type aircraft is a maximum of 10 percent of the upper limit fare.

As for propeller type aircraft, a maximum of 20 percent of the upper limit rate.

Reason for setting policy

Plt. Director General of Civil Aviation Nur Isnin Istiartono said that his party felt the need to issue this provision.

“As a regulator, we need to establish this policy so that airlines have guidelines in implementing passenger fares,” he said, quoted from an official statement obtained Kompas.com, Monday (8/8/2022).

According to him, this additional cost can accommodate the interests of all parties with the aim of providing consumer protection and maintaining a healthy business continuity.

Not mandatory

Nur Isnin said that the determination of additional fees is optional or not mandatory (mandatory) for airlines.

His party claimed to have conveyed the appeal for the imposition of this additional fee to airlines in Indonesia.

“In writing, we have conveyed this appeal to the respective President Director of the national airline, so that it can be applied in the field,” he explained.

In the future, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation will conduct an evaluation after 3 months of applying the additional cost (surcharge) by the airline.

It is recommended that ticket prices remain affordable

Nur Isnin also appealed to all Air Transport Business Entities or airlines serving domestic scheduled flight routes to apply passenger fares that are more affordable for flight service users.

This is because the implementation of affordable passenger fares will maintain connectivity between regions in Indonesia and the continuity of air transportation services.

“As we know, the people’s purchasing power has not recovered due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but the public’s need for air transportation must still be considered,” he said.

The implementation of affordable fares will encourage people’s mobility to travel via air transportation.

So that it can increase the capacity and production of passenger, cargo and postal air transportation nationally.
