New responsibilities
Amalia becomes queen when her father dies or abdicates. Before today that was Máxima, she would then become regent. King Willem-Alexander can also submit a proposal according to the constitution, which means that the princess may have to take over the throne. This is only possible if at least two thirds of the votes of the new chambers are in favour. In addition to this responsibility, she is also a member of the Council of State as of today. On Wednesday she will be ushered in by her father, ceremonial chairman.
Not ready for myself
The book about her was published in October, written by Claudia de Breij. It stated that she would prefer her mother to take over for the first few years, should something happen to her father. “But I mainly said to my father: you just keep eating healthy and exercising a lot.” She is now on her gap year, but wants to focus on her studies for the next few years.
Maintenance obligation
Amalia is given many responsibilities, but children who are not born in the Royal House are also considered adults when they are eighteen. From that age on, parents no longer have access to the financial transactions they do and what important papers they receive. Legally speaking, parents are responsible for the care and upbringing of their children up to the age of 21. This means that they have to pay the costs for care and upbringing.
Comments
Some people disagree that Amalia can already sit on the throne.
But not everyone thinks that way…
