Is Almere Castle finally being completed? Ruin bought by Rabobank

BPD Bouwfonds Area Development, part of Rabobank, bought the ruins from Gravin BV, he reports Flevoland transmission.

The developer of the area wants to build around 850 houses on the site, both in and around the castle. The municipality still has to give the authorization by modifying the urban plan, otherwise Rabobank can still renounce the purchase.

The question is whether the municipality is really ready to change the urban plan. Previously, there was no majority for this on the board.

Moat and fountains

The castle was an idea of a councilor in the late 1990s. The idea was that it was a structure with towers, with a moat, fountains and labyrinth. It was to become a wedding venue, among other things. A restaurant and hotel were also to be built.

Construction of the castle began in 2000. Two years later, construction was halted due to financial problems. Gravin BV bought the ruin in 2005, even then with the idea of building houses on the site.

If the municipality of Almere accepts the new urban plan, things can go quickly. The developer plans to begin construction by the end of 2024.
