Iran’s War Fleet Begins to Move into the Indian Ocean

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The Military Wing of the Iranian Revolution has sent a fleet of warships carrying drones, helicopters and missile launchers to the Persian Gulf and Arabian seas. This step is considered as Tehran’s anticipation of the threat posed by the president of the United States (US) Donald Trump.

Reporting from Arab News, Friday (20/11/2020) Iranian naval commander Abdollah Roudaki showed a photo of the ship carrying anti-aircraft missiles launched from trucks. It also carried four small speedboats, the kind used by Guards in the Arabian Gulf as well as several sailors with machine guns on deck.

The ship is 150 meters long. In comparison, the US Nimitz class aircraft carriers are 332 meters (1,092 feet) long. This Iranian ship does not have a runway, but has a landing pad for helicopters.

The commander of the navy, Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri, advised his troops to move beyond the Gulf waters to patrol the Arab and Indian Oceans. Usually these ships patrol the waters of the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.

“Presence and assignment in the Indian Ocean is our right,” said Tangsiri.

This mobilization is considered as a maneuver by Tehran in response to the routine deployment of US carriers to travel through Middle Eastern waters. Iran sees the mission as a threat after President Trump expressed his desire to attack the Persian country in the near future.
