Iran’s new president makes a statement on nuclear weapons

Ibrahim Raisi promised to support any diplomatic plan that would lead to the lifting of sanctions.

Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi announced during the official inauguration ceremony that the country will not develop nuclear weapons. It was reported by RIA Novosti on Thursday, August 5.

“Iran’s nuclear program is exclusively peaceful, and according to the Supreme Leader’s fatwa, nuclear weapons are prohibited and they have no place in Iran’s defense strategy,” Raisi said.

He added that sanctions against the people of Iran should be lifted.

“Any diplomatic plan that will lead to this goal will be supported by us,” the Iranian President assured.

Earlier Thursday Raisi takes an oath and took office as President of Iran. The inauguration of the president took place in the parliament building in Tehran in the presence of the heads of the judiciary and legislative power, the military, other Iranian officials, as well as with the participation of more than 200 guests from 80 countries.

And on Tuesday morning, a ceremony was held to confirm the presidency of Raisi by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
