Iranian security forces shot and killed a young man celebrating Iran’s defeat at the World Cup

Following Iran’s elimination from the Qatar World Cup in the United States, Iranians’ celebration by setting off firecrackers and dancing in the streets went viral on social media. But during this celebration, Iranian security forces shot and killed a young man.

A young man named Mehran Samak (27) was killed by the security forces. The volunteer organization came forward saying that Mehran was killed in a planned manner by the army, which joined the festivities by honking the vehicle’s horn.

In Kurdistan, Mariwan, Paway and Sarpol-e Sahab in Kermanshah province, people celebrated the country’s defeat by setting off firecrackers and honking horns. During this, the young man was shot and killed. The team’s elimination was celebrated as part of the protest against the Iranian government.

Strong protests are underway in Iran after the death of Mahsa Amini (22), a Kurdish woman who was arrested for not wearing the hijab correctly on 16 September. Subsequently, Iranians even celebrated the country’s defeat against the United States. In solidarity with the protest, Iran refrained from playing the national anthem in the first match against England.
