Iran Admits Air Defense System Tests Over Natanz . Nuclear Facility

TEHERAN – Air defense units Iran fired a missile over the Natanz nuclear facility in Isfahan province on Saturday (4/12/2021) night to test the fast missile defense system.

Loud explosions were heard around 9 p.m., creating panic and fear among residents amid conflicting reports in local media.

Nour News, a news agency affiliated with the country’s top security agency, said: “The explosion was the result of a defensive missile being fired into the sky with the aim of testing a rapid response to a possible attack.”

Security officials, speaking to state TV, said the incident was caused by a “controlled explosion” from a missile fired by the air defense system.

The incident took place in the Badroud area of ​​Natanz city, central Isfahan province, about 20 km from the country’s main nuclear facility. The area has witnessed many sabotage attacks in the past.

The air defense commander at Natanz was quoted as saying by state media, “One missile was fired to assess the readiness of the air defense system. “There’s nothing to worry about,” he said.
