iPhone SE 3: the point on the rumors

Word is getting faster and faster about him. For good reason, we are approaching the period at which the iPhone SE has historically pointed the tip of its nose: spring. And if so many whispers were heard at the same time last year, when Apple had finally planned nothing, specialists in the high-tech world are (once again) convinced that an affordable smartphone flanked by the bitten apple, 3rd generation, will arrive this year. So let’s recap all the hearsay.

Many are those who hope, in any case, to see an iPhone SE 3 land in 2022. On the one hand because the iPhone SE is the possibility of affording an Apple smartphone – a real safe bet – at a more reasonable price. And on the other hand because it will soon be two years since the apple brand has not renewed this ultra popular range. An eternity, for some. Except that, remember, Apple had waited no less than four years between the first and second generation of the iPhone SE, which arrived in 2016 and 2020 respectively… So can we really expect to see a third generation of so early ? What could motivate the Cupertino company to go a little faster, however, is that a third iPhone SE of the name would be guaranteed to be a great success, JP Morgan analysts having recently estimated that a new smartphone “affordable” signed Apple could convert more than a billion Android users, just that.

In the event that an iPhone SE 3 is on the program in 2022, the good news is that it shouldn’t be too long. It was indeed in the spring that the apple brand unveiled its predecessors, and it could therefore take advantage of its first Keynote of the year to lift the veil on the precious. Remember that this traditionally takes place in March, if not last year when, in the context of a pandemic, it was held exclusively online in April. Moreover, we were already expecting to discover a new iPhone SE at that time, but Apple was “content” to present a new purple color for the iPhone 12, its famous AirTag, a new iMac and a new iPad Pro.

The iPhone SE 3, with or without Touch ID button?

This is the big question around the next iPhone SE: what design will it adopt? And the various informants and other specialists in the high-tech world do not seem to agree on this subject. The various suggestions can be summed up in two possibilities, fairly standard and therefore equally plausible. First possibility: the new iPhone SE could use the same design as its predecessors, inspired by the iPhone 8, with the presence of a central button equipped with the Touch ID fingerprint reader, surmounted by a 4 LCD screen .7 inches. Second possibility: Apple’s next affordable smartphone could adopt a look full screen, like the iPhone X and its successors, with a notch in which the famous Face ID facial recognition system would be housed, while the screen would have a larger diagonal by definition, potentially 5.7 inches . To give you an idea, it’s almost the size of the iPhone X and iPhone XS, which are 5.8 inches, so it would still be smaller than the classic models of the iPhone 11, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, which are 6.1 inches.

So which of the two? Mystery. There are as many concept renders for an iPhone SE 3 with Touch ID button as there are for an iPhone SE 3 full screen with Face ID. But what could explain these very different sounds is that Apple is planning not only a third generation iPhone SE, but also a fourth generation iPhone SE… According to various analysts, including the renowned Ming-Chi Kuo and Ross Young, the first which could therefore see the light of day this year would keep the same design as its predecessors, and it would be the next one, which could be unveiled as early as 2023, which would adopt the full screen.

iPhone SE (3rd generation) or iPhone SE+ 5G?

Another subject that has caused a lot of ink to flow recently: what name for the new iPhone SE? If we talk about iPhone SE 3 in this article, it’s purely for a practical matter, since it shouldn’t be the official name of Apple’s future affordable smartphone. The apple brand hasn’t really racked its brains so far, only distinguishing between its predecessors with the mention “1st” or “2nd generation”. Logically, we could therefore expect the next one to be called “iPhone SE (3rd generation)”. Except that it is rumored that it could adopt a completely different name: “iPhone SE + 5G”.

As you will have understood, behind this new name could hide the desire to highlight the main technical characteristics of the device. Unlike its predecessors, the third iPhone SE of the name could actually be compatible with 5G. On the other hand, the “+” could simply emphasize that it would be much more powerful. Which would not be surprising, however, since the big argument of Apple’s affordable smartphone has always been that it benefited from the same processor as the high-end iPhone released just a few months before it. If it were to actually land this year, the third generation iPhone SE could thus have the same power as the new iPhone 13, also being equipped with the A15 Bionic chip – which is none other than the most powerful on the market!

Well, we’ve gone over the rumours. Now, we just have to wait until next March or April to see if Apple actually unveils a new iPhone SE and, if so, if the specialists were right about it. Stay connected, we will obviously not fail to keep you informed on SFR News !

Until then, you can still find the iPhone SE (2nd generation) and many other smartphones flanked by the bitten apple, including the new iPhone 13 range of course, at preferential rates on the SFR online store.
