Strong Demand Greets iPhone 17 Launch in Indonesia
Jakarta, Indonesia – The iPhone 17 series – including the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air - has generated notable consumer interest in Indonesia, with pre-orders exceeding tens of thousands of units within the first week of availability through Apple reseller iBox.
According to joy Wahjudi, CEO of Erajaya Digital (iBox), the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro max models have been the most popular choices among early adopters. The iPhone 17 Air, a new model replacing the Plus variant, has received a more varied market response.
“The number (of orders) is already tens of thousands,” Wahjudi stated at the official launch event in Jakarta. He noted that while global reviews of the iPhone Air are mixed, a dedicated segment of consumers is seeking its lightweight design.
Notably, demand for the premium iPhone 17 Pro Max in the 1TB and 2TB storage configurations has been surprisingly high, despite the higher price point and limited stock. “We were a bit surprised as the 1TB and 2TB demand was quite high, even though the price was premium and the stock was limited,” Wahjudi explained.
Following two pre-order periods since October 10th, future purchases will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis, dependent on weekly stock availability in both iBox retail locations and the official online store.
This launch marks the fastest iPhone release in Indonesia to date, arriving just 28 days after its global debut. Previously, the time lag between global and Indonesian releases could reach up to two months. “That’s a big improvement,” Wahjudi said, adding that Apple is prioritizing the Indonesian market due to increasing local demand, despite not being included in the initial launch wave alongside countries like Singapore and Malaysia.
The iPhone 17 series boasts several improvements, including enhanced battery life, a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system, the Center Stage feature for the front-facing camera, and an upgraded ProMotion display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz.The iPhone 17 Air is characterized by its thin and lightweight design, while the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max feature the new A19 Pro chip for increased performance.
