The company announced at the presentation of the iPhone 14 that in the US the devices will only be sold with an eSIM virtual SIM card, while in other countries combo smartphones with a slot for a physical SIM card will be delivered. For some unknown reason, the latest generation iPhones imported from the United States to Russia do not work in the networks of Russian telecom operators, except for Tele2.
According to Koda Durov’s source from the big three operators, the problem will be resolved within a couple of days after the operators make the necessary changes to the software. The second source claims that the problem is on the eSIM vendor’s side and it will take much less time to fix it – by midnight the US versions of the iPhone 14 will be fully functional.
In Russia, MTS, MegaFon, VimpelCom and Tele2, along with virtual operators (MVNOs) operating on its network, are implementing eSIM virtual SIMs in agreement with law enforcement.
