Justified concerns?

Last year, Apple managed to surprise everyone with significantly larger batteries in the iPhone 11. This means that the smartphone can be used effortlessly for a day. The change was therefore welcomed with open arms, partly due to the longer standby time.

This change may be fully reversed on the iPhone 12. The manufacturer wants to use an older battery technology to absorb the price difference of a 5G iPhone 12. You may wonder whether this change is the correct one. After all, the fact remains that the antennas for 5G also require the necessary power. In theory, this can drain the battery even faster.

The concerns about a smaller battery in the iPhone 12 are therefore justified. The question is how Apple wants to address these concerns. After all, the Cupertino company does not want to lose face in such important aspects of a smartphone.

The new iPhone 12 comes with an improved chipset anyway. The new A14 Bionic chipset is said to be 76% more efficient compared to its predecessor. This still does not mean that a smaller battery is possible. After all, the power consumption of the current chipsets is already negligible.

The iPhone 12 would also have an improved battery technology. Apple will cut costs by using cheaper and technologically less complex battery technology for the 2020 iPhone 12 series and the 2021 iPhone 12S series. According to one source, the manufacturer can get an extra 40% to 50% discount when they use these older batteries. This would be achieved by reducing the number of rigid-flex battery card layers and squeezing active cell components into a smaller area.
