IPHEM calls for donating plasma and blood

The Provincial Institute of Hemotherapy (IPHEM) summons all those people who have suffered from COVID-19 with the aim of being potential plasma donors. The Coordinator of the institute Dr. Alfredo Laplagne explained “we need convalescent / recovered plasma donors from COVID-19, the Plasma stock at the moment is 42 units. 1 to 4 people out of 10 have antibodies and can donate them. We need to study people who suffered from the disease and have recovered for 30 days ”.

The professional explained that plasma donation lasts approximately an hour and a half to two hours, and is performed by a pheresis procedure. In other words, with a single prick, only plasma can be removed, without extracting red blood cells, and the person recovers completely with good hydration during the day. Another advantage is that in the course of a week the session can be repeated because it does not present adverse effects.

To be a plasma donor, the requirements are as follows

  • Have had COVID and have been 30 and no more than 4 months since discharge
  • Weigh more than 60 kg
  • Be between 18 and 55 years old

Shifts can be requested at 4223571 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. from Monday to Friday to study and to know if you have antibodies and if the amount you have is enough to donate.
