To the microphones of Marques Brownlee, the well-known American YouTuber, Apple has answered a couple of bizarre questions that probably many of us have been asking for a long time. Why is there no Weather app and simple calculator on iPad?
Hands up those who at least once have not asked these questions using their iPad. A stock calculator for example it would surely be a valid tool for your productivity, so why not integrate it? Steve Jobs had rejected the calculator on Apple’s original tablet as deemed poor, nothing but the clumsy copy of the iPhone app awkwardly enlarged to fit the size of the iPad.
The authoritative voice is that of Craig Federighi, who provided the answers to the two questions. On the calculator it was expressed as follows:
There are some things we haven’t done because we would like to do something truly extraordinary. We want to do it when we can get the most out of it and honestly we have not succeeded in this.
In short, Apple has not discarded the hypothesis but has simply chosen to propose a calculator for iPad only in the face of the right idea that meets its expectations. The motivation that pushed Apple not to introduce a Weather app yet is more or less similar.
It would be easy to resize our existing Weather app, but we asked ourselves: “What should the Weather app look like to be fantastic? Let’s do it before we present it. “
