IOC President: Covid-19 will not prevent any country from participating in the Olympics – Other sports – Apollo.lv – Sports

Bach took part in a conversation with German javelin thrower Johannes Feter on the social network “Instagram” on Wednesday. The IOC president stressed that the athletes are not to blame in these circumstances, so if everything meets the requirements, athletes will be able to participate in the Tokyo Olympics, despite the situation in Covid-19 in the country they represent.

“If athletes test negative, if they meet the requirements, we have no reason to exclude them from the Olympics,” Bach explained.

The IOC official also revealed that the Working Group of Game Organizers is currently working on a plan that would result in the implementation of the highest level of security measures in the village of athletes, which is also related to the testing of Covid-19.

The organizers have revealed that during the Olympic Games, teams and athletes will be divided into several “bubbles”. Each will also provide meals.

Bach also added that by the end of this year, several companies are likely to have access to Covid-19 vaccinations. He was convinced that the vaccine would not cause side effects in athletes.

Two weeks ago, the organizers of the Tokyo Olympics announced that they would cut spending on about 50 positions, resulting in savings of $ 280 million (€ 237.8 million).

It has already been reported that the Tokyo Olympics have been postponed for a year and are scheduled to run from July 23 to August 8.

Since 1948, the Summer Olympics have been held every four years. Although the Olympics experienced boycotts, terrorist attacks and protests, they were never postponed, but this time the rapid spread of the coronavirus around the world will prevent athletes from gathering in Tokyo this summer.

In the history of the world, only three Olympic Games have been canceled so far, and in all cases it was due to war.
