The day will start with talc in a meadow with very moist but periodically drying soil. Historically, such meadows were found in many places in Latvia, but now there are not many of them, and the largest areas can be found in the vicinity of Ķemeri National Park, as well as Lake Liepāja. The meadow has mowed grass and part of the meadow has been cleared of bushes. The joint effort is to gather the cut grass and bushes in piles to help the meadow regenerate. There is no access to the equipment where the work will take place, so volunteers are the only hope for these natural values.

During the event, anyone interested will be able to learn more about the diversity of nature and learn how to manage and protect natural resources. In turn, after proper work in the meadow, the participants of the clean-up will have the opportunity to learn more about the cultural history of the clean-up venue. Not far from the meadow – owned by “Akmeņbeltes” – the pastor Jānis Saulīte, who has arranged here with great interest and patience Latvia and a corner specially dedicated to the Sloka area. It contains both old photo albums and a number of other historical testimonies about the twists and turns of events in Latvia and, more specifically, in the Sloka area.

Clean-ups in the vicinity of Blind Lake have also taken place before – this is where the origins of the tradition of haymaking in Ķemeri National Park, which has been taking place since 2013, can be traced. The main goal of these activities, in addition to nature exploration and pleasant leisure time, is to preserve rare and protected natural values.

All interested are welcome, but the number of visitors will be limited. Work gloves and rakes for work will be provided. Application for participation in the event until August 20: phone 29802428 (Aiga). The meeting place will be announced after registration.

Working conditions: dry, but closed shoes are desirable, as the meadow is uneven after mowing.

Given the prevalence of Covid-19, the “Tourist Guide” calls for a careful assessment of the need to visit public places, as well as, when going out in nature, investigate the most appropriate walking route, while protecting yourself and others.
