Nine new RS vehicles with a total capacity of 4470 hp, each with 450 to 600 horsepower, were available for testing on the Nemuno Žieda track. I was lucky to increase the available power from 450 horsepower in the RS 4 and RS 5 Sportback to 570 horsepower in the first four-ring supercar R8 V10 and finally 600 horsepower in the RS 6 and RS Q8 in a few hours.

The RS 4 Avant is basically a relatively civilized mid-size station wagon that is very easy to use on a daily basis. Just take into account that the ground clearance is not the highest, and this should be taken into account when transferring from a crossover in the car. However, the ground clearance was the last on the race track, which could theoretically be a cause for concern. Other issues occupied the mind more. No, it was neither boot capacity, fuel consumption, tire wear, nor the car’s 2.9-liter V6 biturbo engine. It was a question of whether the car would turn straight or not.

If the instructor’s car is already on the track and you follow him at about the same speed, the answer is clear, but the grip of the car also seems to be from another world. If the speedometer arrow regularly reaches 180, but at the top of an opaque mountain, the instructor disappears beyond the horizon, just beating not to brake, to release only a little gas and then “sit in front”, it is clear that adrenaline is flowing into the rivers. If you are used to driving at a reasonable speed according to road signs and regulations, it seems that the RS 4 Avant’s stability on the road is not possible, which is absolutely unnatural.

Realizing, however, that the instructor with the RS 4 was actually driving quite cautiously with a considerable speed reserve to make critical moments almost impossible, it was the turn to change cars and get behind the wheel of the RS 5 Sportback. With this five-door hatchback, the event organizers intended to test the speed of the reaction of the guests in the extreme braking test with obstacle clearance and slalom.

But when these tests were completed, it was time for the most entertaining part of the day – drag racing with R8 and RS 6 Avant. I have never been a fan of this sport, but I have to admit that at first I was even pleasantly embarrassed. In fact, so confused at the cockpit of the spacecraft named RS 6 Avant that I forgot to put it in speed and at the moment when the green light on the time clock came on, R8 left alone and ended his dagger duel in boring loneliness. How boring it can be if you have an impressive V10 unit behind your neck behind a thin firewall.
