INTERVIEW. The Bodin’s: “We are worried about our job”

The health crisis linked to Covid-19 violently shut down the entertainment world. On the occasion of the broadcast of the documentary by France 3, the Bodins, the two most explosive comedians of the campaign confide without tongue in cheek about their future. Interview.

What ingredients should a duo have in order for it to be tasty?

Vincent Dubois : In general, to make spectators laugh, these couples are made up of an executioner and a victim, like the one formed by Bourvil and Louis de Funès. For the Bodin’s, Maria is an incredible rock’n roll lady who can afford anything. As for Christian, his son, it was the service chick who kept his childish naivety.

How did your duo form?

Jean-Christian Fraiscinet : When we met, Maria, the character of Vincent, had existed for five years. We very quickly turned towards the character of the son, because we found there many springs for comedy and emotion. Thus was born Christian, my somewhat clumsy character who did not invent hot water or the Covid-19 vaccine.

In this regard, the theaters are closed due to the health crisis. You fill many Zeniths each year. Are the Bodins’ at risk?

J.-C. F. : Currently not. But I admit that we are worried about our profession, because it consists in bringing together spectators in a room. However, if we can accommodate only half of the public to respect the physical distance, it will not be economically possible for our show Full-scale, which notably mobilizes 10 semi-trailers. We can only resume our tour in December if we play under normal conditions.

V.D. : Frankly, we are not the most to be pitied, even if this situation affects us directly and directly. We suspended the shooting of our third feature film in Thailand and put an end to our summer show, which we have been playing on our farm, in Descartes (Indre-et-Loire) since 2005.

It’s a real moment of recreation on our land, and canceling it was a real mourning, it was very difficult… But, the priority is the health of our audience and our team. If, unfortunately, an epidemic outbreak occurs with us, we will not sleep for a few years. Afterwards, we obviously hope that the performance halls will reopen. In our own way, we are caregivers, because spectators need to have fun, forget their worries and get away.
