Internet bullying: shock over death of Marjorie (17) – 14-year-old confesses

The case shocked many in France: 17-year-old Marjorie was stabbed to death by a 14-year-old in the Paris suburb of Ivry-sur-Seine because she wanted to defend her little sister against hostility on the Internet.

That Saturday, many in Ivry-sur-Seine wanted to take part in a funeral march in memory of Marjorie.

Marjorie tried to confront a teenager who had insulted her little sister on Snapchat. The 14-year-old then took a knife out of the apartment and killed the high school graduate in front of the building.

The suspect teenager was arrested Friday night at his mother’s home in Massy, Essonne, after being on the run for a few hours. He is on remand and has confessed to the crime.

According to the testimony collected by AFP, the suspect had “created a Snapchat group that morning” about Marjorie’s younger sister. According to the girl from his neighborhood, the 14-year-old was “a bit of a star in the city”.

“My client admits his involvement but claims that he had no intention of killing her,” his lawyer Adrien Gabeaud told AFP.

The teenager, who was born in November 2006, has no previous convictions, according to his lawyer.

– “A death without a reason” –

According to the suspect’s version, an argument broke out between him and three other people, including Marjorie and her twin brother.

He then “went back to his house for a knife and gym bag”. On the way to “his soccer training” there was a second “physical” and “verbal” argument.

“It was a chain of events that led to this dramatic event,” said the lawyer.

“My sister was not a criminal, she just came to sort out a problem that had to do with my little sister. She came to calm the situation,” says Cynthia, 33, Marjorie’s older sister, on Friday.

Neighbors told FRANCE BLEU that they had trouble sleeping at night after the incident. Marjorie wanted to be an engineer, according to a father who knew her.

Her mother, who has been interviewed by multiple media outlets, described her daughter as an avid student eager to graduate from high school soon. “It’s a death for no reason,” says the mother.
