The first edition of International Film and Environment Festival of the Caribbean, Isla Verdewill take place in the Cuban special municipality Isla de la Juventud from May 31 to June 5.
The event is directed by the renowned actor and filmmaker Jorge Perugorría, and this founding event is not competitive, according to an official note from the project’s communication team.
The festival will promote audiovisual works contributed by the GoodPlanet Foundation, Cinema Planeta and the international association Green Film Network (which brings together more than 30 environmental festivals in the world).
The organizers anticipated that a dozen winning films will be screened at events of this type and will include materials made in Cuba with the collaboration of the Antonio Núñez Jiménez Foundation y Environmental Defense Fund.
The program provides for the premiere at the Cine Caribe, of the special municipality, of the titles Home (2009) y Legacy, our heritage (Legacy, our heritage, 2021) by French filmmaker Yann Arthus-Bertrand, founder of GoodPlanet.
Isla Verde will dedicate a space to Arthus-Bertrand to exhibit a retrospective exhibition of his work.
In this first edition, the planting of three thousand pine stands is planned to reduce the carbon footprint generated by the festival.
Likewise, it intends to contribute, from the Seventh art, a critical perspective of the serious environmental challenges that the Caribbean currently faces.
During the days of the cinematographic appointment the prizes will be delivered Green Island to personalities or projects with a career or work linked to environmental protection and conservation.
On this occasion, the Cuban immersionist Déborah Andollo, the French director Yan Arthus-Bertrand and Eleonora Isunza, director of Cinema Planeta, International Film and Environment Festival of Mexico will receive it.
