International delegates begin to arrive for Sunday’s elections

More than 60 delegates, representatives of international organizations, political parties and special guests, have arrived in the Dominican Republic to participate as observers in the municipal elections to be held next Sunday l6.

According to details offered by the airport authorities, among the special guests there are also observers from the Organization of American States (OAS).

Last Tuesday, the head of the Electoral Observation Mission (MOE) of the Organization of American States (OAS), former Chilean president Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle, who during his stay met with electoral authorities, came to the country. Government representatives, political parties, candidates and representatives of civil society.

Meanwhile, that the group of 25 electoral observers of the Organization of American States, OAS is already deployed in different parts of the Dominican Republic. The missions and special guests from different countries are received in the ambassadors and government halls, by officials of the JCE, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Airport Department.

From Las Américas airport they are transferred to different hotels in Santo Domingo in vehicles escorted by members of the Electoral Police and the Armed Forces, the National Police and the General Director of Traffic and Land Transportation Security (DIGESETT).

From last Tuesday the missions will move to the different precincts and places of the country where the electoral tables have already been sent, to witness the progress of the preparations, prior to the holding of the municipal elections.

Journalists from different media have also arrived in the country to cover the incidents of the elections.

According to data provided by the JCE, out of a total of 32 provinces, 158 municipalities and 235 municipal districts, there will be 4,625 precincts and 16,499 polling stations where people will be able to vote.

As for the number of voters that will be qualified for municipal elections, the February 2020 registry of the JCE states that 7,487,040 people will be able to vote.
