Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Omani sports commentator Khalil Al Balushi has sparked widespread interaction among activists on social media after he apologized to the UAE for earlier statements he made during the Qatar-UAE match United in the 2019 Asian Cup of Nations.
Al-Balooshi said in the video clip circulating during his coverage of the semi-final between Morocco and France: “In the semi-final, but in a bigger tournament and in front of a bigger audience, I offer my apologies to God, that there is no god beside Him. And appreciation for the UAE, its government and its people.
And he went on to say: “God forgive the past, and you are the country of tolerance and those who forgive are generous.
Al-Balooshi had sparked an interaction in 2019 when he commented on the Qatari team’s third goal against their Emirati counterpart, scored by Hassan Al-Haidos, saying, “Al-Haidos beat them.”
