Intelligence officer General Todor Boyadzhiev died

Former deputy of the Grand National Assembly and former deputy head of the First Main Department of State Security, gen. Todor Boyadzhiev died yesterday at the age of 83, his relatives announced, Dir.bg reported.

General Todor Boyadzhiev was born on October 10, 1939 in the city of Karnobat. He graduated from high school in Burgas and then in radio engineering at MEI-Sofia. He worked for more than 30 years in the Bulgarian secret service. He started as a lieutenant intelligence officer and rose to the position of deputy head of the 1st Main Directorate of “State Security”.

In 1990, he became the first chief secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and received the rank of general. Parallel to his career as an intelligence officer, he is Bulgaria’s Deputy Trade Representative to the United States and Minister Plenipotentiary in our mission to the United Nations in New York. By decree of the governor of Oklahoma he is the state’s honorary goodwill ambassador. Member of the 7th Supreme Court and the 39th National Assembly.

He is the author of more than 10 books on intelligence, some of which have been published in Russian and English. For the book “Kim Philby – The Spy – The Man” he was awarded the Russian Cold War Veteran Medal. Doctor honoris causa and honorary professor.
