Insulting Malaysian Badminton Players of Indian descent in Sudirman Cup, This Politician Resigns

KUALA LUMPUR, iNews.idPolitician Malaysia Borhanuddin Che Rahim apologized and resigned from his position in the Indigenous United Malaysia Party (Bersatu) after insulting a national badminton player of descent India, Kisona Selvaduray. At that time Kisona was competing in Sudirman Cup in Finland.

In a post on Facebook Borhanuddin wrote a statement of racism, “From which plantation did BAM (Association Badminton Malaysia) raised these Indians (k*l*ng) to be Malaysia’s main players? ”

BAM also responded on its Facebook page to defend and show solidarity with its athletes while condemning Borhanuddin’s statement.

“The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is completely appalled by the racist remarks made against our national women’s singles player, S Kisona. As the governing body of sport in this country, BAM has absolutely zero tolerance for any form of racism or discrimination so we strongly condemn such statements and will always stand up for our players.” .

“Such appalling statements are groundless and we urge all Malaysians to condemn this senseless act. BAM will continue to fight to eradicate racism in the sport, particularly in the realm of badminton.”

Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister Ahmad Faizal Azumu also condemned the racist postings.
