Instead of Seat, he was to dress Dacie and Lady. But Mesonero-Romanos is leaving after six months

The current head of the Renault group, Luca de Meo, brought him with him from Satt, Spain, last autumn, and Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos was to set the design trend for the highly successful Dacia and Russian Lady. But after only six months, it ends at its own request.

German trade magazine Automobile week learned the information from design circles. Subsequently, however, a spokesman for the Romanian carmaker also confirmed it to him. “In the coming days, he will leave our company at his own request and will continue to work on other projects,” Automobilwoche quotes her.

Until a definitive successor is selected, the current head of exterior design, David Durand, is to be in charge of the Dacia department.

The change is obviously coming very unexpectedly. Still on Saturday informed Renault about the new management of the group of its “Eastern European” brands Lada and Dacia. Its boss is Denis Le Vot and Mesonero-Romanos was listed as head of design.

The 53-year-old Spaniard started at Satt in 1995, but has been with the Renault Group since 2001, leading advanced design, and then leading the design team at the Korean branch of Renault Samsung.

In 2011, he returned to Satt, where he replaced Luc Donckerwolke. Under his leadership, for example, the Ateca SUV produced in the Czech Kvasiny or the latest generation of the Leon and Ibiza models was created.

Where Mesonero-Romanos is heading is uncertain. It could be speculated that, like Jozef Kabaň from BMW, he will return to the VW Group. But it is currently full there. The design of Seat has been led by Jorge Díez since the first of December last year. In recent months, there has also been a change in the position of chief designer of the luxury brand Bentley. Stefan Sielaff left for Geely in China and was replaced by Andreas Mindt.

The Spaniard could also be lured by some of the Chinese or Korean companies that like to hunt among successful European designers.
