Instead of a European tour: Schwab starts at PGA Championship

Golf professional Matthias Schwab will be missing from the two Austrian European Tour tournaments in mid-July.

Instead, the Styrian will tee off at two to three tournaments on the US PGA tour from July 16, as he announced on Saturday after invitations had been given. At the beginning of August, the 25-year-old also played his first major with the PGA Championship, for which he is qualified thanks to strong preliminary work.

In order to be able to compete on the PGA tour during the corona pandemic, Schwab had to self-isolate in the USA for 14 days beforehand. He is already traveling to Florida on Sunday.

Ryder Cup before postponing to 2021

Schwab has secured invitations to the Memorial in Ohio (from July 16) and the following 3M Open, which means that both top Austrians are knocking off at these two PGA tournaments with Bernd Wiesberger and Schwab. Wiesberger is then at the start at the WGC event in Memphis, Schwab tries to get into the field at the parallel Barracuda Championship in Truckee.

The 25-year-old Schwab had already secured the starting place for the PGA Championship by taking 17th place in the European Tour race last year.

Straka verpasst Cut in Cromwell

After a completely blundered round, professional golf player Sepp Straka clearly missed the cut at the US PGA Tour tournament in Cromwell ($ 7.4 million). The 27-year-old needed 72 strokes (2 over par) on Friday and was eliminated as the 120th. The Viennese living in the USA did not make it into the prize money for the second time at the third tournament after restarting the tour.

The American Phil Mickelson took the lead one stroke ahead of his compatriot Will Gordon and the Canadian Mackenzie Hughes.
