This work of art spreads optimism: a large blue bird is part of a new installation on the roof of the New York Metropolitan Museum (Met).

New York – A large blue bird rocks in front of the Manhattan skyline as part of a new art installation on the roof of the New York Metropolitan Museum (Met). The bird, which is reminiscent of a character from the children’s series “Sesame Street”, belongs to a mobile that US artist Alex Da Corte designed for the museum’s roof terrace. “The bold work oscillates between joy and melancholy and brings a playful message of optimism and reflection,” said the Austrian director of the Met, Max Hollein.

The installation “As Long as the Sun Lasts”, which opened on Friday, should be on view until October 31st. It is the ninth time that the museum has invited an artist to design a work for the roof terrace, from which visitors have a panoramic view of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline.

Part of the Museum Mile

The Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met) is the largest art museum in the United States and has one of the most important art history collections in the world. The main building is located on Fifth Avenue and 82nd Street on the Upper East Side in the Manhattan borough of New York City, on the eastern edge of Central Park and is part of the Museum Mile.
