Instagram tests letting people decide whether or not they want to see numbers of likes | Technology

O Instagram announced on Wednesday (14) a new test around the world on the visualization of the number of likes in publications.

According to the social network, “a portion of people will be able to decide which is the best option” out of 3 available:

  1. do not view the number of likes in other people’s publications (which is the current rule);
  2. disable counting for your own publications;
  3. keep the original experience, showing the total number of likes in both.

In 2019, the platform started a test around the world in which hid count of likes in posts. Subsequently, the experiment was extended to the whole world.

At the time, the social network stated that it did not want people to feel that they “are in a competition” and to focus “more on the photos and videos that are shared, than on the amount of likes they receive”.

“We decided to do this new test because the feedback we received from users was mixed,” the company said in a note to the G1.

Instagram said that some people felt less pressured by not seeing “likes”, while others wanted to identify trends and the most popular content on the network.

The option to see or not like the likes will also be extended to the Facebook, who owns Instagram.

“At first, this test will take place on Instagram, but we are also exploring a similar experience for Facebook,” said the company.
