Instagram doesn’t need an iPad version

We can consider Instagram in two ways: a platform on which we publish its images and a platform on which we enjoy just watching content published by others, as we would leaf through an album or catalog that would never end.

Instagram in large format

An iPad version would be perfectly suited to this second occupation where you marvel or have fun with everything you can see on this social network. Alas, Instagram has never developed a version for Apple’s large mobile screens. And it does not seem ready to change, as repeated Adam Mosseri, the boss of Instagram.

In a story, he justified this absence by a lack of resources and by other priorities for the company:

[On] would like to design an iPad app. But we only have a limited number of people, and lots of things to do, and that didn’t seem like the most urgent thing to do right now.

We can put these words differently: financially it has no interest in Instagram. The difference between the number of Instagram users on iOS and Android mobiles and that which an iPad version could touch must be such that there is no reason to invest in an iPadOS app and impose then maintain it. There is the web version for that.

At least there is consistency. In December, Mosseri had already said that nothing was not planned on the horizon, without completely closing the door to this hypothesis.
