SCHWERIN (dpa-AFX) – The bankruptcy of the MV shipyards could be even more expensive for the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania than the last major shipbuilding insolvency in the northeast ten years ago. In the insolvency of the P+S shipyards in Wolgast and Stralsund, which was filed in 2012 despite extensive rescue attempts by the public sector, the loss of guarantees and loans for the state was 239 million euros, as a spokesman for the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Schwerin said on Thursday request from the German Press Agency.

According to the ministry, the state is committed to guarantees of 301 million euros in the MV shipyards. There is also a loan of 78 million euros to the parent company Genting Hong Kong, which the country terminated after the MV shipyards filed for bankruptcy on January 10th. However, it is unclear whether Genting will accept this termination. Genting Hong Kong filed for bankruptcy protection at the Bermuda Court of Justice on Wednesday./ili/DP/jha
