Taliban insurgents control more territory in Afghanistan as foreign troops leave the country.
According to Pentagon estimates, now Taliban-controlled territory extends to more than half of Afghanistan’s central districts.

Deputy head of the Tajikistan Emergency Committee Imomali Ibrohimzoda said the former Soviet republic had built two large warehouses to store supplies for refugees in Khatlon and Gorno-Badakhshan provinces adjacent to the Afghan border.

Several hundred Afghan civilians fled to Tajikistan this month but the Dushanbe government says they have returned to Afghanistan.

The influx of refugees from Afghanistan is likely to occur as the Taliban attack increases in areas controlled by the Kabul government.
The Taliban claim to have controlled 90% of Afghanistan’s borders following their attacks which intensified when US troops and their allies left.
The claim was made by Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid. However, these claims could not be independently verified.
