The Inn at Little Washington Downgraded to Two Michelin Stars
PHILADELPHIA – In a surprising move ahead of tonight’s Michelin Guide ceremony in Philadelphia, the prestigious guide announced that The Inn at Little Washington is losing its three-star rating, reverting to two stars. The declaration marks a significant shift for the DC-area dining scene, as the Inn was previously the region’s only restaurant to hold the highest Michelin distinction.
The downgrade comes as part of a broader reassessment of top-rated restaurants, with Alinea in Chicago and Masa in New York also losing a star each. Michelin stated the decision reflects its annual, autonomous evaluations based on a consistent global methodology and five key criteria.
“The Michelin Guide maintains its role of providing fair and qualitative recommendations to consumers…The Guide’s recommendations are far from fixed and are reassessed each year following anonymous and independent visits conducted by its Inspectors,” the guide said in a statement. “These evaluations are based on the Guide’s methodology…applied uniformly across the globe for the past 125 years.”
The Inn at Little Washington had held three Michelin stars since 2019. Other DC-area restaurants currently holding two Michelin stars include Minibar and Jont.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
