Initially Wanting Peace, Singapore is Now Cautious in Facing the Spike of COVID-19

Jakarta

Singapore Previously, it was reported that he had prepared a plan to live ‘peacefully’ with COVID-19 because it has a high vaccination coverage. However, recently cases of COVID-19 have soared, so the government has to be careful.

The highest record of COVID-19 cases in Singapore was reported on Friday (10/9/2021), with 573 new cases. Previously, Singapore’s COVID-19 cases were known to be in a sloping condition with an average of under 50 cases every day.

One of the heads of Singapore’s COVID-19 Task Force, Minister of Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong, admitted that this trend was worrying. This is the first time Singapore has faced a spike in cases COVID-19 since the peak of the outbreak in April 2020.

“We did expect an increase in cases when the restrictions began to be relaxed. But this sharp increase is worrying,” Gan said as quoted by CNA, Sunday (12/9/2021).

Gan said he wanted to look in the mirror with cases that occurred in other countries that also have high vaccination coverage, such as Israel and the UK. The two countries are also reported to have experienced a spike in COVID-19 after trying to live ‘peacefully’ and making easing health protocol.

“So now we want to be careful and give time to make sure this high number of cases doesn’t lead to an increase in serious cases and deaths,” Gan said.

“The next two to four weeks will be an important period. Because we will know whether the patients will face serious symptoms and complications,” he continued.
