Initial spark in the Prinzenpark? Leipzig hopes for a miracle

With zero points, Leipzig is at the bottom of Group A after two match days. In order for the situation to change, something has to be taken away from the star ensemble of Paris Saint-Germain of all places.

Leipzig – The season has so far been a single disappointment for RB Leipzig.

So even with the appearance at Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday (9 p.m. / DAZN) in the Champions League, which was actually planned as a holiday, the question arises whether the current Bundesliga soccer team has enough quality at all.

Initial spark: Three wins from eight Bundesliga games, zero points after two appearances in the premier class. To describe the start of coach Jesse Marsch as mixed has meanwhile been embellished. In such a situation in particular, a completely unexpected victory can spark off. Marsch knows that too: “We have a great chance of a great result.”

Balance: Leipzig is far from being a permanent guest in the Champions League. But against Paris, RB is playing for the fourth time. In August 2020, they clearly lost the semi-finals at the tournament in Lisbon 3-0. Last season they won 2-1 at home, but lost 1-0 in Paris. “This time it’s going to be a different game. Now the fans are there, ”said Leipzig defender Nordi Mukiele.

Wonder storm minus Neymar: If Leipzig wants to win in Paris, the defense has to work first. Because PSG has a famous attack in Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé. Even the failure of Neymar has to be coped with. But Marsch also identified a weakness. Tactically it doesn’t fit the outstanding duo by a long way, because new signing Messi is not yet fully integrated. “But they have a lot of fun when they play together. You can see that, ”said Marsch. Leipzig wants to take this fun away from the miracle storm.

Forsberg factor: As always with special games, everything from Leipzig looks to Emil Forsberg. The Swedish international scored a number of crucial goals during his time at RB. One of them was the winning goal against PSG last year. As a result, Leipzig ultimately prevailed in a difficult group against Manchester United.
