Commemorative offices confiscated in Moscow
In Russia, a court confiscated the Moscow offices of the banned human rights organization Memorial. The building had been turned into public property, it was said. The procedure was criticized as being politically motivated. The court’s decision came just hours after Memorial was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The organization said it wants to continue the fight for human rights and celebrate the Nobel Prize. EU summit: no agreement on gas prices
During their deliberations in Prague, EU countries failed to reach agreement on a gas price cap. By the middle of the month, the Commission will now have to come up with a concrete proposal on how to reduce prices. A small majority of EU countries are in favor of a Europe-wide price cap for gas. Ukraine: mass grave apparently discovered in Lyman
According to the Ukrainian army, a mass grave and about 200 other graves were found in the city of Lyman in eastern Ukraine. As the responsible governor announced, the dead could be Ukrainian soldiers and civilians. The exhumations have already begun. Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof terminates the collective restructuring agreement
Germany’s last major department store group, Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof, appears to be struggling with a drop in consumption. Given the tense economic situation, the retail chain announced that it had unilaterally terminated the wage integration contract with the Verdi union.
