Yuri Perevoshchikov, director of the Infectious Diseases Risk Analysis and Prevention Department at the SPKC, said at a government meeting on Tuesday that sees no need yet impose additional restrictions throughout the country and a strategy of local measures is currently being implemented in areas where the infection has spread or foci have formed.

According to him, this also applies to the use of face masks, which could be introduced in public transport, in closed public spaces in places such as Kuldiga, if the infection continues to spread widely there. “The use of masks should not be extended to regions where only one case per week has been registered, such as Vidzeme and Zemgale,” said the epidemiologist.

“If the infection grows and you can’t tell where you get it from, then you have to think about local measures,” Perevoshchikov said.
