Inflation in November 5.2 percent, highest in almost 40 years

Inflation was 5.2 percent in November. Such high inflation has not been measured since 1982. That is what the Central Bureau of Statistics announced today.

Energy prices in particular rose sharply. The price of gas was 53.0 percent more expensive in November, electricity 74.9 percent and fuel 24.7 percent. Another factor is that prices were relatively low last year due to the corona crisis.

With the recovery of the economy, inflation has also been rising for a few months. In October inflation in the Netherlands already reached its highest level since 2002.

Last week it was announced that inflation in the Netherlands was 5.6 percent according to European inflation standards. The figure published today has been calculated on the basis of the Dutch method. This also includes the costs for housing, for example. The percentage therefore differs from the European standard.
